Impact Moling

What is Impact Moling?

At Ardent Utilities, impact moling is a cost-effective, non-disruptive method of installing utilities underground. There's no reason to excavate large areas of ground so work can be carried out quickly and efficiently.

Safely controlled by an experienced engineer, the 'mole' punches a bore from:

  • Point A - a small launch pit.
  • to Point B - another small reception pit.

These pits are approximately 8 - 10 metres apart. The surrounding ground around the mole is compacted to create a smooth bore to allow a new pipe to be installed quickly and mess-free.

About Impact Moling

Typical installations for impact moling can be used for all small utility services such as:

  • Gas pipes
  • Water pipes
  • Cables and ducts under roads
  • Railways
  • Driveways
  • Gardens
  • Patios
  • And other existing structures and environmentally sensitive areas.

Impact Moling is an unguided soil displacement technique in which a percussive mole is placed and launched from small excavation to form a bore through the ground. The new conduit is normally drawn in behind the mole or pulled back into the bore using the hammers reverse action.

  • The underground working area is confined to points of entry and exit only.
  • No disruption to traffic.
  • Impact Moling is fast, efficient and in most cases - low cost.
  • Ideal for working in soft clays and slits.
  • Minimum disruption to property.
